A burner that runs on landfill gas is much cheaper than a gas engine when it comes to investment and maintenance cost. The efficiency is up to 90%.
The challenge though, is the placement of the landfill. As a consequence of the smell, the landfill is commonly located far away from populated area, and the landfill will normally not have the need of all this hot water.
It is very important to use a stable burner because of the various composition of the landfill gas. Spare parts and people with good knowledge, should also be available after the project is completed.
The burner should also be able to communicate with the landfill gas plant to optimize the running of the total system.
